Expressing individuality through fashion

KUALA LUMPUR, OCTOBER 17TH – Generation Z is taking the fashion industry by storm and changing how others should view their fashion choices!

Yasmin Sofiya, an 18-year old Malaysian fashionista, shares her views on how fashion has helped her become more confident and embrace her individuality.
​
“Fashion itself defines self-empowerment, and it enables me to gain more confidence as time goes by, especially during the adolescence phase, I’ve discovered more new things and trends, stepped out of my comfort zone.” She said.
​
She learnt that the clothes she has worn have played a huge role in forging her individuality. Even when staying at home, she believes it is important to dress up, which plays a role in helping her take a step out of her comfort zone.

But with the latest fashion trends, she has different views.
​
“With the latest trends, I would say that I don’t think that I fully keep up with the latest trends as I’m more comfortable in wearing whatever I want,” She states.

Yasmin believes everyone can be the creator of their own style and would like to invest in more versatile clothing.
When asked if she believes in her own self to create her own individual style, she answers with confidence!
“Of course! I believe in myself to create my own style because it just makes me aware of my body and which clothes highlight the parts I like most about it.”
Another reason is because she understands her preferences and what works for her and what doesn’t.

When asked why did she post pictures of herself on Instagram, she responded-

“I started posting pictures of myself because I love taking pictures of my outfits. I’d love to share them to my followers and also keep it for memories.” She said.
​
Yasmin started posting more and more because of the compliments she would receive from her mutuals and followers, which helped her gain more confidence to share more of her outfit pictures on social media!

It made her happy when people told her that they love her fashion sense and look up to her posts as their inspiration.
​
She expresses her individuality proudly with the way she dresses, but where does she get the rest of her confidence from?
She answered, “I get the confidence to dress whatever I want to wear without thinking about society’s opinion. I’ll always tell them that their opinions don’t and won’t even matter. Everything we do is for ourselves and just do whatever makes yourself happy. That’s all that matters!”
