Sneakers with a flow

KAJANG: Chang Keat Sheng, a young Malaysian who started his small business and shares his experience on the success of his small business.

​

The rise of digital era and fashion have attracted the 16-years old school boy to build his own sneakers business one year ago.

​

‘It start when my friend and I realise that sneakers have become trending nowadays and at the same time selling it can generate income,’ he said.


He also added that he has seen a lot of influencers in Instagram that succeed in this business and that’s how he started to try his luck in this field.

The business of the young Malaysian keeps on growing ever since he started his business last year and covid-19 pandemic has boosted up more than he thought.

​

‘I have sold 20 sneakers when I just started my business last year,’ he said.

​

‘Suddenly my business boosts up especially during this pandemic, I have sold 35 sneakers during the pandemic and it shows a positive sign to me,’ he said.

Business will not always be smooth when the young Malaysian faces a lot of challenges during running his sneakers business.

​

‘I have been labelled as ‘scammer’ and ‘counterfeiting’ when I try to sell sneakers, especially it is limited,’ he said.

​

‘They did not believe in me because I was too young and did not trust the quality of the product that I sell,’ he declared.

​

He also added that he has been blacklisted and blocked by one of the sneakers group dealers at WhatsApp because of these rumours.

Keat Sheng’s parents disapproved of his idea of starting up his own business at a young age as a reseller which he was still a student which didn't have enough capital.

​

‘My parents are worried about my academic performance and if my business is not going well, I will bear the loss if it really happens,’ he said.

​

Things are not changing the decisions of the 16-years old mind to start his small sneakers business where he starts to make a balance between business and education in order to succeed in both sides.

​

He will not go for canteen every recess time and will not spend on unnecessary things in order to save his pocket money.

​

‘Every single money that I save will be my capital which I will buy new sneakers and resell them according to the bargain market price,’ he said.

Making business are not an easy going path where the young Malaysians keep on going to pursue his dream.

​

‘Some people will say that generation Z there are all depends on family and a lazy generation but I just ignore it,’ he said.

​

‘Just focus our goal and do not give up even though you fell for 100 times because there will always be a chance for you to stand up,’ he said.

​

He also added that make every single step are worth and only disability in life is a bad attitude.
