DAMANSARA, NOVEMBER 16TH- MoonBoba is a recently established jewellery business run by 18 -year-old Jordy Kruger on Instagram. The business specializes in handmade earrings in current styles.
Jordy said she began the business because of a school project but decided to expand it shortly after. Once she came up with a business name she was passionate with, it was full steam ahead.
Jordy said she uses Instagram to sell her items because she is most comfortable with it.
“Instagram has many helpful tools that really benefit small business owners, and I wanted to use that to my advantage,” said the 18-year-old.
According to Jordy, all the earring designs in the store were created based on her passions and trends she sees others like. She said she frequently finds inspiration from TikTok, Pinterest or even by talking to her peers.
“My main audience is Gen Z, my generation and I know TikTok is a great source of Gen Z likes and dislikes that can impact my products and presentation,” she said.
Apart from that, she designs based on her own personal interests. “For instance, my next collection is going to be about Gravity Falls- because some people requested it, plus I love the show,” she said.
Once she has finalized the concept, she said she has to brainstorm three to four designs and prepare for the social media launch. “I try to relate the theme and design around the photos to match the collection theme. I usually use PicsArt or MediaBang paint for this,” said the 18-year-old.

Jordy said she has to constantly stay conscious of new trends. “Another reason why I have TikTok is to see and understand the new trends that are going around so I can use them to benefit my products,” she said

She said she feels really happy seeing more young people start online businesses as it shows the power of technology.
“Instagram and more widely, the internet, has been able to help people explore their passions and contribute to the economy at younger ages, and thus predicts a brighter future in business and growth,” said the 18-year-old.
As more young people are supporting online businesses, there are a few things Jordy wants people to remember. For one thing, she emphasizes how every share and engagement the business gets affects them greatly so customers should try to be as generous as possible.
She also talks about how quickly people turn on each other online when brands make mistakes.
“Although I too am guilty of the same misunderstandings, I hope more people could eventually see how there is a single person behind the brand that is doing the best they can at the moment,” she said.
According to Jordy, we could see more variety of jewelry from MoonBoba but it would be in the future. “I want to approach it carefully when my budget and platform expands more,” she said.
