If you're a Gemini, there's a high chance you're a serial killer

PETALING JAYA, NOVEMBER 11th- As a Malaysian kid, do you remember reading the astrology section of the newspaper?
Now astrology comes in the form of memes, and it’s capturing the attention of Gen Z’s. People joke about dating or relatable situations, and categorize “the signs as ...” literally anything from anime characters to types of cat breeds.
One such popular account is @ astrhology. 18-year-old Rina started the account April 2019 and now has a whopping one million followers.
(Rina would like to be addressed with they/them pronouns).

“I was always interested in people and outer space and astrology is a perfect mix of both,” they said.
Rina didn’t favour long informative texts
and magazines. They believe pictures and
memes are much more entertaining to
themselves and other young people on
Instagram.

Rina also frequently uses their Instagram polls to interact with their followers - such as who’s more likely to or which sign can relate to which situation more.
“I used to pay attention to trends a lot but after a while I started posting whatever I personally like while still trying to connect with my followers.”
No longer just relegated to the horoscope back page of a newspaper, these memes can take on different formats. Pie charts, bingo cards, adaptations of already popular memes, mood boards, and screenshots from popular cartoons.
These astrology meme accounts have created a community of people to connect through astrology.
“I started learning about the signs when I was 12 and studied about real astrology when I was 14 and after a while, I applied that knowledge to this page,” said the 18-year-old.
Rina stated that a lot of young people, more than those before, want to feel understood and astrology allows that.
“We want to look at the way someone works using astrology and find the reasons behind their behaviour,” they said.
